New urinalysis will help you find an individual healthy diet for everyone

Different people may react differently to the same food. This is due to the individual characteristics of the metabolism. A new test shows whether a person's diet is right.

Scientists have developed a urinalysis test that can determine if a person's diet is right. The development of the new test is described by two studies by a group of scientists from Imperial College London. Works published in Nature Food. A five-minute test in the future may help tailor diets uniquely suited to people with different metabolic conditions.

Why the same healthy diet is not possible for everyone - research

Scientists have discovered how individual the metabolic response of different people to the same foods is. They hope that in the future it will be possible to develop a separate diet for each person.

At first, scientists collected urine samples from about 2 thousand people. They focused on finding 46 different metabolic products in the analyzes that are associated with different problems caused by inappropriate diet.

The authors carefully evaluated the diet of the study participants. By examining the daily urine analysis, they were able to compare the diet of people with what metabolites they excrete.

"In people with a healthy diet, the patterns of metabolites in the urine are different from those found in the urine of people with a poorer diet," Paul Elliot, co-author of the study, told New Atlas.

Scientists used the findings to create a test system that can be used in clinical practice. They called it the Dietary Metabotype Score (DMS). 19 volunteers took part in testing the invention.

The WHO identifies four types of diet - from very healthy to very unhealthy. The volunteers spent at least three days at each of them. At the same time, the scientists systematically examined their urine using the DMS test.

The high scores on the new scale indicated that the participants were currently following a healthy diet. However, in some cases, the test system gave different results for people who received the same food. Scientists believe that in such cases, more specific dietary interventions are required to make the diet suitable.

According to scientists, the new method - determining the metabolic profile of urine - provides doctors with a tool for objectively assessing different diets. The test shows how the same food affects different people. In the future, he should help in the selection of individual diets, taking into account all the characteristics of metabolism.
