According to the World Health Organization, the number of detected infected people in 24 hours was more than 183 thousand. The number of deaths during this period amounted to more than 4,700, WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing, Forbes reports.

The highest incidence was recorded in Brazil with 54,771 cases detected. It is followed by the US (36617) and India (15400).

Last week, WHO indicated that the world is entering "a dangerous new phase" as many quarantine restrictions have been lifted. The director general of the organization stressed that the pandemic is intensifying.

According to the Johns Hopkins University Resource Center, the total number of COVID-19 patients during the observation period is approaching 9 million, and the number of deaths - 500 thousand.
