In early April, doctors at the Pokrovskaya Hospital in St. Petersburg recorded a video message in which they announced an acute shortage of protective equipment, drugs and equipment to provide patients with oxygen. Last Sunday, Chief Physician Marina Bakholdina received a prestigious state award.

Soon after the video message, the hospital was overcrowded, patients had to be placed in the corridor, in addition, five employees contracted the coronavirus.
“Remember this hell in the Pokrovsky hospital? Well, when the doctors also recorded a video message that they had nothing, and the head physician said something like that she was not aware of what these victims want, and they say they have everything. Naturally, the converts themselves took it upon themselves. And then the directors and ordinary doctors from this hospital secretly turned to us (and to me in particular). In fear of the head physician, they begged to provide them with PPE, partitions, screens, and supplies for resuscitation,”wrote Ilya Fomintsev, director of the Cancer Prevention Foundation, on his page, who, together with his colleagues, created the What To Do consultation service to help doctors. He noted that the head physician did not get in touch with him and his colleagues, and the hospital was provided assistance exclusively at the request of the ordinary physician.
On June 21, in honor of Medical Worker's Day, the Kremlin's website published a decree of the President of Russia on awarding Russian doctors with certificates of honor, Pirogov orders, Luka Krymsky medals and the title of Hero of Labor, honored doctors of Russia and honored health workers.
Of the St. Petersburg doctors, only Marina Bakholdina was awarded the title of Hero of Labor with the wording “for special labor merits, dedication and high professionalism shown in the fight against coronavirus infection (COVID-19)”. In Moscow, the award was received by the chief doctors of the clinic in Kommunarka Denis Protsenko and the 52nd hospital Maryana Lysenko, in Nizhny Novgorod - the head doctor of the hospital Yulia Garevskaya, in Kaliningrad - the doctor of the epidemiology center Irina Koval.
