A remarkable story has taken place at a barbershop in a small American city, which in practice shows that a responsible approach to COVID-19 prevention can bear fruit.

Two craftsmen infected with SARS-CoV-2 have not infected any of their 140 clients and six colleagues. Doctors suggest that this was facilitated by strict adherence to all recommendations for the prevention of COVID-19. This is stated in a message on the official page of the city of Springfield.

The official report says that all employees of the Great Clips Barber in Springfield strictly adhered to all recommendations to prevent infection with COVID-19. Reception was conducted on a rolling schedule to reduce possible air pollution by the virus, chairs were spaced apart, hairdressers did not approach clients more than 1.8 meters when not cutting them. The main thing is that the rules of the salon obliged both craftsmen and visitors to wear masks.

The client of the Great Clips hairdresser was Steve Pockin, a journalist for the local newspaper News-Leader. At the end of May, he described his visit to this establishment as follows:

“I didn't think it was possible to cut someone wearing a mask. The hairdresser told me to hold the mask with my hands as she removed her bandage to cut her hair on one side and then on the other. It's not that hard."

When it became known about the illness of the two masters, 46 of their clients were tested for SARS-CoV-2, none of them was found to have the virus. The rest were simply quarantined under medical supervision and did not develop symptoms. By now, the quarantine period corresponding to the probable incubation period of the infection has passed.

“This is great news about the value of wearing masks in preventing COVID-19,” said Clay Goddard, director of the local health department, in an official statement. He added that doctors continue to study the details of the story, including the types of masks used and the types of other preventive measures.
