The Kremlin expects to reach the coronavirus plateau by mid-May

According to the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, in a few months people will forget the hardships caused by the pandemic. “By the middle of May we should already reach this plateau. And then, in the first month of summer, it will probably get easier,”said the presidential press secretary in an interview with one of the Russian media.

Peskov drew attention to the fact that the critical phase in Italy and Spain lasted "a maximum of a month and a half" and expressed confidence that a gradual decline in the incidence rate is also planned in Russia and life will return to normal.

Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, expressed the hope that Russia will be able to avoid the explosive peak in the incidence of COVID-19, but for this it is necessary to comply with all quarantine restrictions on the May holidays.

“I really hope, and we are moving towards this, that we will not see any peak. A peak is an explosion, we have no explosion. This was one of the tasks that we set for ourselves, and today we see that it is being implemented. Unless we get lost on the holidays. This is the biggest risk today,”the head of the department said on television and urged Russians to stay at home over the weekend.

Popova also stressed that Russia started with an increase in the number of new patients with coronavirus of almost 30% per day, today it is less than 10%.

As of April 26, 80,949 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Russia, of which 6,361 were in the last day. 6,767 people recovered, 747 died.
