Scientists analyzed the highest quality studies on the role of fiber in breast cancer prevention. Fiber does have a protective effect. The scientific review was published in the journal Cancer.

Dietary fiber is a component of plant foods that passes through the human intestine mostly undigested. Its main sources are fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. WHO recommends eating at least 400 grams of fruits and vegetables per day.

Soluble fiber can dissolve in water, such as pectins. An example of insoluble fiber is cellulose.

Women with the highest fiber intakes have an 8% lower risk of breast cancer than those with the lowest fiber intake, according to a new survey.

Studies have shown that soluble fiber plays a major role in the prevention of breast cancer. Data on the preventive effect of insoluble fiber are also available, but at present they are less reliable.

Studies that have focused on breast cancer in pre-menopausal women point to even greater benefits from fiber. In women who ate the largest quantities of it, this disease developed 18% less often.
