The World Health Organization has announced a pandemic of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19. WHO Director-General Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus announced this at a briefing.
“This is not just a health crisis, it is a crisis that will affect every sector. Therefore, every sector and every person must be involved in the struggle,”said the WHO Director General.
Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus called on all countries:
· To intensify the fight against the disease;
· Disseminate information among people about the potential risks and ways to protect against disease;
· Identify, isolate and treat infected people, track their contacts;
· Prepare hospitals;
· Protect and train health care workers.
WHO calls the global spread of a new disease a pandemic. The organization does not give specific quantitative definitions. Most often, this term was used for various strains of influenza. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that a pandemic is spoken of when viruses "can simply infect people and be effectively transmitted from person to person" in many regions of the world.
