The world organization has released two videos that explain when and how to use medical masks to prevent coronavirus infection.
When to wear a mask
If you are healthy, the mask should only be worn when caring for someone who may be infected with the 2019-nCoV coronavirus.
- Wear a mask if you sneeze or cough.
- Masks are only effective if used in combination with frequent hand washing with soap or hand sanitizers that contain alcohol.
- The mask should cover the mouth, nose and chin. Make sure the mask fits snugly on your face.
- Try not to touch the mask when using it. If you do touch it, wash your hands with soap and water or rub with an antiseptic.
- Replace the mask with a new one if it gets wet. Do not use disposable masks a second time.
- When removing the mask, hold on to the ties, do not touch its front. Throw the mask into a basket, which can then be closed tightly. Next, wash your hands with soap and water or wipe them with an antiseptic.
- Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from people with symptoms of 2019-nCoV infection (coughing, sneezing, etc.).
- Regularly sanitize your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if they are not visibly dirty, or wash them with water and soap if there is visible contamination.
- When coughing and sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with the inner fold of your elbow or paper towel, which should then be discarded immediately. Following this, hands must be washed.
- Do not touch your nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- In daily life, wearing a mask is not required as there is no evidence that it helps in this case.
- If using a mask, follow the rules.
