“Correction of risk factors at the population level is an effective way to increase healthy life expectancy,” noted Oksana Drapkina, chief specialist-therapist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. - We have achieved a significant reduction in tobacco and alcohol consumption, but the prevalence of a number of risk factors, and above all obesity, is increasing. This is facilitated by the abundance of high-calorie food and low physical activity. Diet and physical activity patterns are established from childhood, which is why it is so important to start preventive measures at this age.”

Within the framework of the program “Pulse of Life. Children”launched a project to inform schoolchildren and their parents about the risks of an unhealthy lifestyle and measures to prevent cardiovascular diseases for schoolchildren. The prepared information and educational materials in a simple and understandable form explain to children and their parents the importance of such prevention from school age.
Animated videos about the role of the cardiovascular system in the human body and a designer comic strip in which the protagonist Zhora Sandwich tells children about the troubles that happened to him because of an unhealthy lifestyle, were created taking into account the peculiarities of perception of modern children. On their basis, in the next academic year in Russian schools it is planned to conduct a number of health lessons in the quest format. A playful approach and vivid characters should not only help the child understand the basic principles of preventing serious diseases, but also take a step towards making these principles a way of life, the authors of the project hope.
“There is only one way to strengthen the body's natural defenses - what is called a 'healthy lifestyle': good nutrition, adequate and regular sleep, exercise, stress reduction. It sounds simple, but in practice it can be difficult to organize. It would be much easier to eat the “magic strengthening pill”, but, unfortunately, there is no such pill today,”said the pediatrician, author of the book“Fediatrics. A non-anxious approach to a child”Fyodor Katasonov.
