“Research has shown that a bowl of rich chicken noodle soup can help clear up congestion and relieve cold symptoms. It's all about the ingredients,”said Sandy Allonen, MD, clinical nutritionist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

So, all the ingredients in chicken soup do their bit. First, the broth, because, as you know, with a cold, it is important to avoid dehydration.

“The clear broth is warm and soothing, making it a great source of hydration during illness, especially if you have a sore throat,” she explained.
