Roszdravnadzor again found falsified cancer drugs

In Russia, they continue to falsify expensive cancer drugs. Fraudsters are especially fond of the targeted drug Herceptin, which is used to treat cancer in many localizations. The medicine is repackaged, released for secondary sale, manufactured in artisanal conditions. Moreover, counterfeits are detected not only in the pharmacy chain, but also in government institutions, where they are received under a government contract.

In Russia, they continue to falsify expensive cancer drugs. Scammers are especially fond of one of the most popular targeted drugs, Herceptin, which is used to treat cancer in many localizations. The medicine is repackaged, re-sold and even made in artisanal conditions. Moreover, counterfeits are detected not only in the pharmacy chain, but also in government institutions, where they are received under a government contract.

According to Roszdravnadzor, an entrepreneur who supplied the falsified Herceptin to the Belgorod Regional Oncology Center was prosecuted and fined 550 thousand rubles. The authenticity of 37 packages of the drug delivered to the institution under the State contract by Pharmistok LLC raised doubts among the specialists of the Belgorod Department of Roszdravnadzor, who came to the oncological dispensary during a routine check.

The suspicions were confirmed by an examination of the quality of the medicine, carried out in a certified laboratory of Roszdravnadzor (branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "IMTSEUAOSMP" of Roszdravnadzor in Rostov-on-Don). After that, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Belgorod Region opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 327.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. “In the course of the investigative measures, it was revealed that the accused, when supplying the drug to the Belgorod Oncological Dispensary, independently repacked the original drug he had in fake secondary packages (37 pieces, for a total amount of 1,404,150 rubles), which indicated deliberately false information about him production ", - told MedNews the head of the press service of Roszdravnadzor Olga Maleva.

She clarified that we are talking "about the secondary dumping of drugs on the market." This is possible if government agencies write off drugs to patients who do not actually receive them. The drugs are then sold to dealers. The criminal case is still underway, Roszdravnadzor said, and there is still no information about the Belgorod counterfeiter's accomplices, as well as about the region from which he received the drug.

This is not the first time Russia has faced the situation of falsification of trastazumab (the active ingredient of the drug "Herceptin"). According to experts, there are now more than 10 thousand patients in Russia who need treatment with Herceptin. The original drug of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche is sold in pharmacies at an average price of 20-25 thousand rubles per bottle with 150 ml of the drug. And some part of this market is “closed” by counterfeiters.

"Herceptin" comes into the field of view of Roszdravnadzor specialists with frightening regularity. The department has more than once sent letters about the discovery of batches of fake "Herceptin", issued orders to withdraw from circulation and destroy the next falsified batch of the drug.

Several years ago, a large clandestine production was discovered, based in Rostov. During searches in warehouses and industrial premises, the police found an illegal workshop with equipment for crimping ampoules. Materials for the production of counterfeits, which would be enough for the production of about 700 thousand ampoules, were stored in two KamAZ trucks. For two years, counterfeits made from Ukrainian and Chinese raw materials were supplied to pharmacy chains and hospitals in Moscow, Nalchik and other cities. Having concluded a supply contract, the criminals were selling original drugs for the first time. After passing the examination, counterfeit medicines were added to the new supplies, and then only counterfeits were supplied. Now the organizer of large-scale production is serving a sentence in a strict regime colony.

According to experts, a special labeling system should help to change the situation with the appearance of counterfeit drugs in circulation, the implementation of which is taking place within the framework of a pilot project in all medical institutions and pharmacies where expensive drugs are received. Special labeling allows you to identify a specific batch of medicine and trace its path.
