The combination of well-known vitamins and minerals, as well as new "vitamins for longevity" can help prolong human life and improve health in old age, according to a new American study.

Dr. Bruce Ames, Senior Research Fellow at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute in California, drew on his own data and research from other laboratories. The results of his work were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

In his article, Dr. Ames identifies a set of vitamins that he calls "longevity vitamins." It also divides proteins (or enzymes) needed for health into “survival proteins” and “longevity proteins”. They are all important for maintaining health, but they play different roles.

Dr. Ames argues that "survival proteins" support our basic functions of life and reproduction, and "longevity proteins" play an additional role in protecting the body from damage.

When nutrients are inadequate, the body usually promotes the production of "survival proteins", which can lead to a decrease in the amount of "longevity proteins", and this, in turn, can lead to an increased risk of disease.

"Longevity vitamins", according to American researchers, are nutrients that support the function of "longevity proteins" and allow the human body to maintain health and prolong life.

Dr. Ames's vital nutrients include vitamin K, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, and selenium, which are known to promote cell health. They have many functions in the body, including repairing DNA, maintaining cardiovascular health, and preventing cell damage from oxidative stress.

Dr. Ames also claims that a combination of 30 known vitamins and essential minerals, taken in proper doses, can help prolong a person's lifespan.

To these he adds 11 more compounds that are not yet classified as "vitamins". Dr. Ames believes that they are also "vitamins of longevity."

These include taurine, ergothioneine, pyrroloquinoline quinone, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin and astaxanthin.

Previous research by Dr. Ames and his team has shown that people who are chronically deficient in vitamin K (which is found in 16 enzymes) and selenium (which is a key component of 25 enzymes) have an increased risk of health problems, especially cardiovascular disease. …

Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting. When there is not enough of it, the body is unable to produce enough enzymes that help keep arteries clean, thereby promoting free blood flow.

Based on the results of his research, Dr. Ames encourages people to eat a balanced and healthy diet. “Diet is essential to stay healthy over the long term. You need to follow the directions that your mom probably gave you: eat vegetables, fruits, cut out sugary soft drinks and empty carbs,”says Dr. Ames.

American researchers believe that in the future, experts may identify even more "vitamins of longevity." However, finding these nutrients requires long-term follow-up, as deficiencies do not necessarily produce immediate and noticeable effects. Deficiency of "vitamins of longevity" causes malfunctions in the human body only over time.
