Women whose mothers have lived for more than 90 years have a good chance of longevity, according to a new scientific paper published in the journal Age and Ageing.

A long-term study of about 22,000 women has shown that women whose mothers lived at least 90 years have a 25% higher chance of a long life. Moreover, scientists claim that it is about a life without serious illnesses like stroke, diabetes, cancer and serious fractures.

If both parents have reached the age of 90, the woman's chance of reaching this age increases to 38%. At the same time, scientists did not find a tendency for longevity among women in whom only their father lived to 90 years.

“With the growing elderly population, healthy aging has become a critical health issue. Our data shows that these women will live to 90, but they will also be able to live without serious illness and serious disabilities,”said study author Aladdin Shadyab of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Diego School of Medicine).

Shadyab noted that this is not just about the number of candles on a birthday cake. These women were independent and could do their daily homework, walk up the stairs, and pursue their hobbies.

“We now have evidence that the lifespan of our parents can predict how long we will live. We must investigate this issue further in order to understand the mechanism of this phenomenon. We need to figure out how certain factors and lifestyles interact with genes to influence life expectancy,”says Shadyab.

Life expectancy is influenced by a combination of environmental, lifestyle and genetic factors.

The study found that women whose mothers lived longer than 90 years were more likely to graduate from college, get married, and have comparatively higher incomes. They were also more physically active and had healthier eating habits.

“Although we cannot influence our genes, our research shows the importance of passing on healthy habits to children. This choice can play a decisive role in healthy aging from generation to generation,”concludes Shadyab.
