Hello from vacation

Companions of resort romances …
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by several pathogens, including: chlamydia, mycoplasma, Trichomonas, gonococcus, treponema pallidum (the causative agent of syphilis), some viruses. The first 4 directly affect the reproductive organs. Most people are sure that STIs will never touch them. After all, they themselves are decent people, and their partners are the same. But it is at least naive to think that they can only be picked up through marginal contacts. Any unprotected sex is a potential threat.
At the same time, the carrier of the infection sometimes may not even be aware of this, since he does not have any specific symptoms. Therefore, the study for these infections (for example, as part of the annual screening) is recommended for absolutely everyone, even those who are married and consider their relationship to be trustworthy, regularly.
… and their consequences
The main danger of STIs is not so much that they undermine trust and expose a partner to the possibility of infection. And not even in the appearance of unpleasant symptoms. The main problem is that these infections cause serious inflammation of the genitourinary tract.
This applies to both men and women. However, due to the anatomical features of the genitourinary system, a woman has a slightly higher risk of infection. And, besides, for women, among all other complications, it is fraught with infertility or miscarriage. Some pathogens are able to penetrate the placenta, that is, they can infect the fetus. Consequences for men are diseases of the urogenital tract, which, with a prolonged course without treatment, can also lead to infertility.
Don't delay your visit to the doctor
Do not be frivolous and hope that everything will work out. As well as waiting for the infection to manifest itself - in the form of itching, swelling and redness of the mucous membranes, pain when urinating, unpleasant discharge. If you have a holiday romance, and you have not even remembered about the remedies, you need to see a doctor. The optimal period is from 2 days to 2 weeks after unprotected contact.
Since it is almost impossible to identify the pathogen by the "eye", a competent doctor will take material for research at least four infections at once. Moreover, there is no guarantee that the vacationer has not acquired a "bouquet" of infections. For example, mycoplasma or Trichomonas infection is often associated with chlamydial infection. And if you treat only what is diagnosed by a one-component test and clinical signs, then you can skip another infection.
In such cases, temporary relief of symptoms may even be observed, but relapse will follow. In addition, we must not forget that all pathogens have a different etiology and are treated with different drugs. Therefore, the true causes of the infection must be identified immediately in order to immediately begin the correct treatment.
What tests will be required to pass
Today, for the diagnosis of STIs, PCR methods come to the fore, which make it possible to identify the pathogen. But they must be complemented by other methods. So, microscopy allows you to determine if there is inflammation. And bacteriological culture - to determine the sensitivity of the identified pathogen to antibiotics. Biological material for microscopic examination and PCR diagnostics is a smear taken from men from the mucous membrane of the urethra, from women from the vagina and cervical canal. For biological seeding, smear, urine, blood, feces, saliva are used. But experts do not recommend immunological research methods - for antibodies. These tests can give a false negative result and are therefore not informative.
But, even with the results of all these studies on hand, one should not self-medicate and independently prescribe a course of medications for unpleasant symptoms. Only a doctor can make a correct diagnosis based on tests and clinical manifestations . Do not drink antibiotics for prophylaxis. Since each infection has its own pathogen, they are treated with completely different antibacterial drugs. And the uncontrolled use of antibiotics threatens that microorganisms become more and more resistant to them.
