Dutch scientists investigated the effect of generic sildenafil on pregnant women with circulatory disorders in the placenta.

Earlier in the media there was information that the death of 11 babies born to women participating in the study, led to the termination of the experiment and fear for the lives of other children. As reported by The Guardian, pregnant women who took part in a study conducted in 10 hospitals in the Netherlands had embryos that lagged behind in growth and development.

Given the lack of treatment for this condition, it posed a poor prognosis. And in this case, hope was given by experiments on rats, in which Viagra improved blood flow in the placenta, promoting fetal growth. A total of 93 women participated in the study, 17 newborns developed pulmonary disorders.

As stated in the official communication received by MedNews from the manufacturer of Viagra, "Pfizer did not participate in any way in this study, did not sponsor it or provide the drug for participation in the study." In addition, none of the clinical trial participants took sildenafil or any other Pfizer drug. "Principal investigators at the Amsterdam University Medical Center have confirmed that they have used a generic (generic) drug, sildenafil, which is not a Pfizer manufacturer," it said.

The company would like to express its condolences to the survey participants and their families. And recalls that Viagra is indicated exclusively for the treatment of symptoms of erectile dysfunction in adult men. The original drug was tested for safety and efficacy in clinical trials involving more than 15,000 patients.
