In Yekaterinburg, more than 1.8% of residents are HIV-positive - and this is only official statistics. Such data was provided by Tatyana Savinova, the first deputy head of the health department of Yekaterinburg. Approximately every 50th resident of Yekaterinburg is a carrier of the virus, and there are more than 25 thousand such carriers in the city. The concentration of patients is especially high in the Zheleznodorozhny district - more than 2%, 1.5% each - in the Leninsky and Kirovsky districts. The Sverdlovsk Region is the leader among the regions of Russia in terms of the number of HIV-infected people, and in its administrative center they announced “the officially generalized stage of the spread of HIV infection”.

Students attending Southwest Petroleum University (Nanchun, China) can now learn how they are doing with little to no check-out. Vending machines, which usually sell a variety of snacks for a quick bite, have new sets that are not food-related. There are now HIV tests next to instant noodles. The cost of the kit, which contains everything you need for an express urine analysis, is about $ 4.4 (a little less than 300 rubles).

More than half of infections occur through drug injection (52%), however, sexual transmission is also common (46%). At the same time, recently the virus infects people 30-39 and 40-49 years old, and the younger population, thanks to educational work, practically does not become infected - 1-2 cases are recorded annually. Tatiana Savinova added that boys and girls are now conducting educational work among their parents. At the moment, 342 underage residents of the city have been diagnosed with HIV, and another 432 are under medical supervision. The vertical route of transmission of the virus, according to doctors, is common only among those mothers who either do not have information about their diagnosis, or do not recognize it (members of the HIV dissidents movement consider the virus to be a fiction, which in some cases can be fatal). As for those women who, knowing their status, underwent all the necessary procedures during pregnancy - as Tatiana Savinova said, they all gave birth to healthy children.

The majority (92%) of HIV-positive Yekaterinburg residents are treated free of charge, in addition, great attention is paid to prevention - Alexander Kharitonov, who holds the post of the city's chief epidemiologist, said that an information campaign was being prepared in the media. Also, specialists from the Sverdlovsk Regional AIDS Center regularly travel to crowded places - they conduct express testing.
