The Minister of Health of Udmurtia, Aleksey Churshin, intends to oblige the chief doctors of the republic to stop smoking. “From January 1, 2017, I intend, in addition to the labor contracts of the heads of medical organizations, to conclude agreements that will oblige them to quit smoking. If you do not quit smoking, you cannot work as a chief physician, "Churshin explained.
The minister believes that such measures will help patients quit smoking and start leading a healthier lifestyle. “I think people will be motivated to quit smoking, and we will help. It pains me to look at some of our chief doctors with a long smoking experience, who already have shortness of breath, overweight. People need to create motivation,”he added.
It is also planned to develop a system for monitoring the implementation of the agreement: it is assumed that a test for the content of nicotine in exhaled air will be used for this, which will determine whether a person has smoked in the last month.
However, adherence to these or those bad habits is not a reason for dismissal. It will be impossible to dismiss the chief physician just because he violates the signed agreement - this is contrary to Russian law. So, after all, the key will remain how effectively the chief physician will manage the medical institution.
