Three years ago Maxim Lyashko from Norilsk was injured, as a result of which he lost his hand. “Before, like all ordinary people, I absolutely did not think about prostheses, their types, price and availability, or rather inaccessibility for disabled people. But life made me figure it out. And do you know what I learned? It turns out that high-tech prostheses are not produced in our country. Only cosmetic "pendants" are put free of charge, from which there is no benefit. And if a person wants a controlled functional prosthesis, then he has to pay tens of thousands of dollars for it,”he says.

Maxim decided to develop a domestic bionic prosthesis, the cost of which would not exceed thousands of dollars. Note that the majority of foreign analogues are at least 10 times more expensive.

The company “Max Bionic” was organized, which included engineers, robotics, designers and neurosurgeons. Together they are developing a new prosthesis. In order to make it cheaper, experts used three-dimensional printing.

A prototype of the 3D printed prosthesis, equipped with the original self-locking finger traction system, electromyographic sensors and an elastic retention system, has already been created. It takes no more than ten minutes to install it.

The developers are already preparing for clinical trials of the bionic arm and are recruiting volunteers who will receive a free prosthesis. In addition, a device has been created for children from 7 to 12 years old - the authors plan to test the prostheses on young patients in the fall of 2016.
