According to the latest figures from the World Health Organization, the number of victims of Ebola in West Africa has risen to 5,160 from more than 14,000 infections, according to the BBC. Mali also reported two new deaths from Ebola.

A nurse and a patient she was caring for died on Tuesday at a hospital in Bamako, the capital of Mali. The deceased patient had recently returned from Guinea. The first victim of the deadly fever in Mali was a two-year-old girl who died in October, also from Guinea.

In Sierra Leone, according to experts, only 19 out of 53 treatment facilities are operational, and only 140 out of 370 groups specially trained to conduct burials have begun their work.

The incidence of new cases is not increasing in Guinea and Liberia, but remains high in Sierra Leone. Ebola has killed more than 2,830 people in Liberia, 11,200 in Guinea and Sierra Leone, two new confirmed cases in Mali and eight deaths in Nigeria. That being said, the total number of deaths from the epidemic has increased by 200 over the past week, reflecting how quickly the virus is spreading.
