Patient Thomas Duncan, who was first diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, is now in critical condition at a Dallas hospital, Reuters reported. "He's fighting for his life," CDC chief Dr. Tomas Friden said Sunday.

Duncan flew from Liberia to the United States on September 20 via Brussels and Washington. On September 25, he went to Dallas Hospital with a complaint of fever and abdominal pain. Despite informing a nurse that he was traveling in West Africa, he was prescribed antibiotics and sent home for treatment. Three days later, his condition worsened and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. On September 30, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that Duncan had Ebola, and on Saturday, the patient's condition deteriorated from "serious" to "critical" according to doctors.

According to experts, in the United States about 80 people have contacted him, some of them are currently in quarantine. The virus has also reached Europe. For example, a few days ago a woman was hospitalized in Spain with suspicious symptoms. The patient, who recently returned from Senegal, was recently taken to a hospital on the island of Menorca. In Sierra Leone, a Spanish priest was infected with the Ebola virus, who will be brought home by a special plane of the Spanish Air Force. Several Americans and a French woman have also contracted the highly contagious virus, and another case has been reported in Canada.

According to the latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ebola virus infected 7,492 people, of which 3,439 people died.
