It is still not clear whether the list will include Tenofovir, which is needed by several hundred thousand HIV-infected patients.

“Tenofovir is the least toxic. The currently existing analogues of the drug, which are in VED, cause anemia and have long been unsuitable for use,”explained Vadim Pokrovsky, head of the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS. "Tenofovir", he said, is especially necessary for HIV-infected with tuberculosis and hepatitis C, of which there are several hundred thousand in Russia.

The Ministry of Health is not yet able to accurately answer the question of whether it is planned to include "Tenofovir" in the VED list, despite the fact that they admit that the absence of this drug in the list will significantly complicate its receipt for patients.

The newspaper also cites official statistics, according to which in 2013 there are 592939 people with HIV in the Russian Federation. In 2012 alone, 75,708 new cases of HIV infection were detected, which is 12.5% more than in 2011.
