A resident of Seattle (USA), 65-year-old Naveena Shine, who has been conducting an experiment on "sunshine feeding" since May 3 and intending to live a hundred days on water and tea with a drop of milk, on June 19, announced on her Facebook page about the end of the hunger strike, which lasted 47 days.
A few days before, the woman diversified her diet with juices and soups, in order to then gradually return to solid foods. As Shine said, the reasons that forced her to stop “feeding on the light” were mainly financial, as she could lose her home, phone and Internet due to non-payment.
The idea that guided Shine was that the human body has the ability to function normally only on its own resources, without solid food, receiving only water and sunlight from the external environment. According to her, she intends to prove that people by nature do not need food and thus a worldwide victory over hunger is possible.
Starting her experiment on May 3, the woman equipped her house with 24-hour video cameras, and when she went outside, she filmed herself with a mobile phone camera so that everyone could make sure that she was not eating anything.
During this time, Shine lost weight from 72 to 57 kilograms. The woman claims that her physical well-being remained relatively good during the 47 days of the hunger strike, despite increasing weakness, leg cramps, bouts of nausea, dizziness and chills. According to the pensioner, in the end she did not understand whether sunlight could slow down the onset of the negative effects of fasting and how long she could have survived without solid food.
According to experts, theoretically a person can live on water and tea for two or even three months, after which irreversible changes in metabolism will begin, leading to death.
