The regional hospital in the village of Kalga (Trans-Baikal Territory), by a court decision, will pay a million rubles to the parents of a two-year-old child who died due to a medical error, Interfax reports citing a message from the Trans-Baikal Human Rights Center.

On February 16, 2012, the Zelepukins' family called doctors to see their two-year-old son Fedor. The paramedic who examined the child recommended that Fedor be promptly taken to the hospital, which the parents did. The doctor on duty examined the child, after which the nurses took care of the boy, who gave him injections and an IV.

Despite all the actions taken, Fyodor's condition worsened, it became difficult for him to breathe. “As a result, when the surgeon appeared and scolded the child’s mother for panic, the boy began to choke, rolled his eyes, his hands were cold and his chin was stronger,” the message says. Then the doctors tried to revive the child. The boy passed away a few minutes later.

According to experts from Roszdravnadzor and the regional bureau of forensic medical examination, the doctors misdiagnosed the child, as a result of which they underestimated the severity of the patient's illness. "As a result, the period of therapeutic inactivity was two hours, which led to a late diagnosis of" stenosing laryngitis "and to ineffective resuscitation measures," - said in the message. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies did not open a criminal case in connection with the boy's death.

The parents wanted to recover five million rubles from the hospital as compensation for moral damage, but the court reduced the amount of the payment by five times.

A resident of the city of Chebarkul (Chelyabinsk region) demanded a similar amount - a million rubles - from the city hospital for mistaken removal of the right kidney.
