According to the specialist, from January 1 to February 2, 73 people with general hypothermia were admitted to Moscow medical institutions. Five of them died. Another 131 people, including 10 children, sought medical help for frostbite.

As the head of the burn center of the Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Sergei Smirnov, clarified, the number of victims of the cold in Moscow in 2012 is at the same level as the previous year, despite the fact that the weather is considered colder.

According to the Mosgorzdrav, many of the victims of the cold are people without a fixed abode. Earlier, Sergey Logunov, deputy head of the Moscow department of social protection of the population, said that with the onset of severe frosts, the number of appeals of this category of citizens to the capital's centers of social adaptation increased sharply.
